suzi and alan

Mt. tremper. Never heard of this place? Not surprisingly, it is only mentioned on the detail cards of the woodstock area. We went there only for nostalgic reasons, because there is the family home of our longtime boyfriend alan carle, he lived in the region back in those times when the legendary woodstock concert took place and where he got to know and fell in love with suzi . during various visits to australia and to their “botanical ark” they shared so much youth memories with us, that we necessarily wanted to go there to visit their roots.

As a child Alan was asked what he wanted to be one day and he answered: “an aussie”. 45 years ago he left the catskill mountains, studied biology in australia, then sent his puppy love suzi, he first met in the nearby orphanage for norwegian children in mt. tremper, an airline ticket. suzi came, stayed and became also an australian. I know the two since 1997 and who ever wants to make holidays at a very special place in australia, they should go the „tranquilla retreat“ on the botanical ark. To inform yourself visit the website www.botanicalark.com – such a privately funded project is hardly to be found a second time in the world. By the way – many of our friends know about it – in 2001 I had published – together with alan – the book “the botanical ark” in which their life’s work is presented. There are still some copies available, order them via alan´s or my website. © n.g.

woodstock

The synonym of a whole generation for peace, drugs, flower power, hippies and love for free. Thereby the legendary concert hand´t taken place in woodstock, it happened on the muddy meadow of mr. max yasgur`s farm in bethel about 70 km away. We did not go to woostock for nostalgic reasons, but because we wanted to visit our friends sally and  michael. Both are photographers and i have known michael for years, since he bought my nude photography tablebooks and he asked me to authograph them once we had been to new york city some years ago.

Woodstock is a small, lovable town in the catskill mountains with only 3500 inhabitants. The peace sign is displayed still everywhere, but now on coffee mugs, t-shirts or neon signs. Peace the merchandising.

Sally and michael welcomed us like long lost friends, although we had met the two only once. Michael even offered his studio space including lightning equipment for disposal, invited us to dinner and showed us his lovable and beautifully designed farm. Great to experience such a hospitality, a great thank you to both of them. and here is michael´s website: http://www.photosensualis.com

Because of our truck we were approached by german-born thomas and he invited us not only to the  family dinner in his house, but instead offered us his entire estate during his absence for disposal. So much trust and hospitality !! Wow, the spirit of woodstock lives on. At least here in the catskill mountains. © n.g.

niagara falls

Each second  the content of a million bathtubs of water plunges over the edge of the niagara falls and that´s only 25% of what had flown over the cliffs in former times.

Today, the bigggest amount of water goes tot he hydro electric plant and for the tourist show they let rinse more water at daytime than at nighttime – But even the many trinkets-shops you have to pass if you want to get to the attractions can´t distroy the fascination of the falls. It is enough to avoid the ugly cornet buildings in the camera viewer and you can enjoy a great nature experience. © n.g.

toronto

With over 2,7 million inhabitans toronto is the largest city in canada and a very vibrant metropolis that just experienced a major construction boom. Everywhere they dug and built, trucks carrying  concrete is a part of the cityscape so as the daily traffic jam. © n.g.

It´s not an ozean, it´s just a lake. The lake ontario isn´t even the biggest one of the big lakes. © n.g.
