HETDEX: Leading the Revolution
HETDEX will be the first major experiment to search for dark energy. It will use the giant Hobby-Eberly Telescope at McDonald Observatory and a set of spectrographs to map the three-dimensional positions of one million galaxies
Hobby-Eberly Telescope [Martin Harris/McDonald Observatory]
A scientific revolution is underway. It will tell us more about the universe than we have ever known before, because it will tell us what makes up almost three-quarters of all the matter and energy in the universe. It will tell us if the laws of gravity are correct, and reveal new details about the Big Bang in which the universe was born.
The subject of this revolution is dark energy, a mysterious force that is causing the universe to expand faster as it ages. And one of the leaders in the revolution is HETDEX — the Hobby-Eberly Telescope Dark Energy Experiment — at The University of Texas at Austin McDonald Observatory. Its observations will narrow the list of possible explanations for dark energy, and may even provide the final answer.
HETDEX will combine the immense light-gathering power of the Hobby-Eberly Telescope, the world’s third largest, with an array of new instruments for analyzing the light from distant galaxies.
hitchBOT / 2
The great idea came to germany: „Can robots trust humans“ is the idea behind the hitchhiking robot who had crossed canada by it´s own last summer.
Together with its “parents” hitchBOT had visited our place in frankfurt / germany. The reunion was great because together with hichBOT we had started our trips through america in halifax in july 2014. Here you can see the blog contribution about hitchBot in halifax

Our friend marc from mannheim recommended us to visit his best friend mike with his charming wife simona in dallas. Great. We were welcomed with open arms. They invited us to a sailing trip (yes, in dallas!), took us to their friends, we cooked together, had interesting discussions and lots of fun together.
So, marc from mannheim, stupid running, now we will argue about marc and simona from dallas, when they will be here in germany for a visit. :-) © n.g.
voodoo museum / new orleans
For 5 bucks you get into the small exhibition spaces of the new orleans voodoo museum. Hopefully voodoo helps against pneumoconiosis as well, because the cleaner of the museum is indisposed since decades. It looks like a shabby german ghost train, except that us cents swell out of the skulls. Voodoo is one of the huge religions and it`s not just about to maltreat dolls with needles. As in any other religion it´s about stoking fears and earn money. ©n.g.
