triunfo / baja california sur

Triunfo was a city. But when the gold and silver mines were depleted in1926, the number of inhabitants decreased from 10,000 to now 380 people. A highlight in the village is the cafe triunfo and when you have an illustrious breakfast at the table on the outside wall of the former prison, please have a look behind you. The bullet holes in the wall derives from the shootings of the delinquents.

botanical garden “buena fortuna” / la ribera

We had a recommendation to visit the botanical garden in la ribera. This private run project reminded me very much to the project of the australian biologist alan carle, who founded togehter his wife susan “the botanical ark” in mossman / australia and still runs it.

The botanical garden “buena fortuna” on the baja califonia sur is a project of well known biologist gabriel howearth (seeds of change) and kitzia kokopelmana (countryside designer with useful plants & kitchen alchemist). Both projects see themselves as a living seed bank for endangered and rare plant species, with a special attention to the useful plants.

Kitzias mission is: “I dedicate my life of Service to the Earth to all living beings. May every seed planted be multiplied to bring abundance to every home. May every garden be cultivated organically so the ecosystems allow a great diversity of natural life to thrive. It is my purpose in life to carry on organic seeds of botanical diversity to co-create beauty and abundance now and for the future generations.”

p.s.: if you are interested in this topic, please order the botanical ark book!

frank arnold art & gallery

our friend patrick corr had recommnded visiting this art place in san josé del cabo: the american artist frank arnold has realized his gallery together with his studio and living space under one roof. Besides many huge paintings and sculptures two large coffee table books are displaying his artworks in his “showroom”.

Little episode: frank has experienced as an 8 years old boy that he was adopted and therefore often the number 8 can often be discovered in his art works. Should you visit san josé del cabo frank arnold art & gallery is a “must see”.

The parntercity of Cabo San Lucas has a completely different flair, no cruise ships arrive here , there is no party mile for unleashed american youth, here the establishment goes shopping. Every thursday evening there is an art walk through the art district and frank arnold art & gallery is the lonesome lighthouse in the touristy shallow water area, who has no need to sell colorful skulls (yet best as ashtrays) (See next post: frank arnold art)

cabo san lucas

Lands end of the baja california and Cabo San Lucas is like a small, american tourist city. All along the beaches are building shells of new hotels, in a few years everything will have changed.

Is this a post worth? Yes, because we have visited christina and patrick corr, quasi friends of friends. The two have introduced us to their friends, just great. Among them markis saffert, a german baker (do not miss: “The Cabo Bakery”) and a canadian ex-wrestler.

Thanks christina and patrick for this great time.

puerto aqua verde

we had several recommendations for this beach, it should be a pearl on the baja california. to get there, we had to drive a narrow, stony and bumpy dirt road for about 20 miles . actually the track is not designed for our car size, partly we had to cut away the thorny bushes and the occasional oncoming traffic was always a challenge. But the hassle is worth it and we met the two nice american couples again who had also recommended this pearl.
