world travelers meeting

during our previous trip we were often amazed at how popular the unimog worldwide is. large tires and a truck with a mercedes star is often enough to convert an atego to an unimog, – at least for many americans who never got a chance to see such a rig. The unimog museum gagggenau oranized a world travelers meeting and for us it was a great opportunity to meet many traveler buddies again. For sure there was a bbq in the evening and a lot of stories were told on the long table.

convent of san francisco javier convent of san francisco javier convent of san francisco javier

We had driven to this „small“ town because we needed service for our truck and it´s a perfect for place to start a visit to méxico city. The minister here (convent of san francisco javier) is very well known and in contrast to the lodging of the poor population it indulges in golden luxury. Security check like on an airport , maybe they fear that visitors scrape off some gold.

Soon i will post a video about our ballooning and some exciting stories about méxico city, then there will be a short break in germany and I am curious if there are also interesting things to post.

batteries

Although it was foreseeable it´s also the realities are on such a journey: the cabins batteries were down and had to be replaced. Here are even chinese manufactored batteries in inch measuremens and they didt fit into our metric, european battery compartment. Our friend andrew atwood (atwood european) managed remedy, welded an expansion on the compartment and helped to connect the new, heavy and with 500 ah hopefully adequately sized batteries. Of course, the binding posts wre not identical as well!

back in phoenix

the best way to experience how long 10 hours could bei s a long distance flight. What a nice welcome by andrew who picked us up at the airport and took us to our home: the atego. He had taken care about it during the 3 ½. months while we were back home in germany, Thank you Andrew !!!

Now i have to organize the upcoming exhibition at the tieken gallery and we enjoyed the open air office at lake pleasant.

hall´s creek overlook

Here i’ll tell you one of our secret travel tips: there is a “primitive campsite” on the hall’s creek overlook and the entire infrastructure are two tables which somebody had hauled to this place. You can reach this is overlook with 4×4 vehicles and high clearance only that means: you are alone! … And when there is no moon, then ist’s particularly great. No artificial light, no noise. That´s heaven. Almost the same as in the devil’s garden …

death valley / 2

bad water (-280 feet below zero)

if you want to enjoy sunny and warm days i recommed visiting the death valley in the end of august. With an average of only 2 inch rainfall per year and up to 135 degree fahrenheit, you can leave the long underwear at home. With -280 feet below the surface, it tends to be the lowest point in north america.

death valley / 1

To stay overnight at lonely places in the desert have a special charm. The complete absence of civilization noise, no, or at least a few annoying lights, loneliness and often brilliant starry sky provide this special flair. Before we drove to death valley we had such a magical place on the edge of nothing.
