3 d pictures / read instructions!

Everybody who has two healthy eyes sees stereo, so this is nothing unusual. on our computersceens we see images in two dimensions – this is normal too. Now here is a possibility to see a three-dimensional image without tools. the stereo image consists of two almost identical individual images which were slightly offset -mostly taken with the natural distance of the eyes. at the present stereo pictures the image for the right eye is arranged on the left side and the picture for the left eye is positioned at the right side. and now you have to squint!

How it goes: Open the stereo image. The size should not exceed 16 cm (6,5 inch)  (for both images together). the monitor should display a black background as much as possible (pull the site over the scene), the viewing distance is about 25-40cm (10 to 15 inch) (tip of the nose to the screen). Now look with the right eye to the left picture and with the left eye to the right image. then something strange happens: you see three pictures! the left and the right image are mono, the virtual three-dimensional one is in the center. Caution: do not try too long, it needs some workout but please do not overdo it! for „still standing” eyes and headache no liability. : -)

otherwise a lot of fun and give me a feedback if it works or not. so please post a comment. Thank´s.

blue ridge mountains

After all those big cities we had visited during the last weeks, it was time for a little seclusion. We drove in the shenandoah national park and stuck in a traffic jam at the entry counter. Everyone wanted to see the last sun rays and the colorful stained woods and of course: enjoy some solitude. But after the weekend the park and the skyline drive almost belonged to ourselves. © n.g.

museum of natural history / nyc

The dinosaurs are still there, where we had seen them during our visit many years ago. however, the natural history museum had been upgraded in many areas. A spacey sphere was build in which movies about the cosmos are shown and many departments have now huge screens which show for example the geological history of the earth in many details. Some sites sound like a german building supplies store were also video-messages baaing from the all-over the installed screens.

niagara falls

Each second  the content of a million bathtubs of water plunges over the edge of the niagara falls and that´s only 25% of what had flown over the cliffs in former times.

Today, the bigggest amount of water goes tot he hydro electric plant and for the tourist show they let rinse more water at daytime than at nighttime – But even the many trinkets-shops you have to pass if you want to get to the attractions can´t distroy the fascination of the falls. It is enough to avoid the ugly cornet buildings in the camera viewer and you can enjoy a great nature experience. © n.g.

It´s not an ozean, it´s just a lake. The lake ontario isn´t even the biggest one of the big lakes. © n.g.

teueikan indians

Mr. Fronçois form the information center of baie saint paul  liked our car and a bit later we hosted him as a guest and i provided us with several very interesting information. One of those was chantal wapukuan, she is a memer oft he „teueikan“ he so called „first nation poeple“ sho got the french given name from her grand mother, she was keen on the chic of paris and and otherwise we would have not recognized her as an Indian woman, especially since she first came to meet us in western dresses.

until the 1980ies the canadian authorities had tried everything to suppress the culture and language of the natives and chantal also discovered late that she knew as good as nothing about their cultural roots. Even the language was foreign to her, her “mother tongue” was french for a long time.

I had in mind that we get offered a folkloric show, but I was wrong. So pure and personally I had never delved into a nascent into a disappearing culture – Chantal explained not only objects of daily demand but also how and from what they have been prepared and in addition, she showed us many plants used for medical purposes and rites of their people. You should experience this fascinating and earthy culture at chantal´s and her husband´s place. The two also offer accommodation service in their tipis with nightly campfire.

Sure I can not play all the stories, so here only two details that have me particularly intrigued. Chantal showed us various animal skins and the difference between industrially tanned skins of those who were treated in traditional Indian fashion. The Indian variant was much, much softer and even breathable. And how it was produced? With a lot of water and the brains of moose and bears. Nothing for olfactory sensitive noses but the result is amazing.

In earlier times, the women and men of the teueikan were naked in the summer months and they put their wigwams at the river shores for fishing. In the winter months they moved to the game-rich forests and used different clothing parts against the fierce cold. Despite all revival thoughts it seems that the jesuit moral which was forced on them is obviously not reversible. Too bad ……  © n.g.
