In fray bentos, on the border with argentina, an industrial meat factory was built in the 19th century and was in operation until 1970. At its peak, 4000 people worked here, who processed up to 2000 cattle into canned meat. Meanwhile the industrial monument belongs to the unesco world cultural heritage and due to lack of money it is dimming towards decay.
