calendar 1986

Yesterday we had a visit by enthusiastic sahara explorers and so my car calendar from 1986 came in my mind. And I got the idea to post these shots which were caputerd before the photoshop area. At that time we traveled with 3 vehicles into the algerian sahara to realize these photos over there.

30 years ago!! How the time flies…

klassik garage kronberg / germany

It looks like this when big boys can realize their childhood dreams. Klaus flettner is not just collecting oldtimers, they often get rebuild from totally rusted carbodies.

There is a workshop (klassik garage kronberg) to restore those babies and even the vehicles of other oldtimer enthusiasts get well maintained there.

Why do I post this? Now, i do know klaus for many years and his passion for classic cars remembers me to andrew atwood in phoenix, who had restored his „tailfin“ with passion for about 7 years and had given it a new life. Some weeks ago i had taken photos of his „tailfin“ in the desert of arizona which will be published in the mercedes benz star magazine of america very soon. And of course here on my blog. Stay tuned….

greg allred / las vegas

The fact that we stumbled into the art aquare in las vegas was just random and we discovered that most artists’ studios and galleries tried to get ready fort he opening on thursday. Greg Allred was whitening the walls of his new exhibition space, took spontaneously a lot of time to chat with us, to look at my co_works book and to present us his sculptures.

Dear Greg, good luck for your show and if someone is interested in his art, here is his phone number: 01 702 767 3537

las vegas

Situated in the middle of the desert you feel no tranquillity. On my hit list of sites the world don´t need the “strip” of las vegas would be good for the first ranks. Peace seems to be perceived as a thread and so numerous speakers in front of the restaurants blats with the unmuffled engines and everything is combined with the noice of the slotmachines.

The scenery of venice, next to the eiffel tower and the pyramids, LED garlands planked pirate ships and disney kitsch: Well, you may like it, but I’ll let it stay.

jael hoffmann / olancha

Before we started our journey I asked günter ludwig for interesting art contacts in america and at once he has recommended to visit jael hoffmann. Jael lives with her daughter noa near olancha in the sierra nevada mountains. Converted shipping containers are used as warehouses and workshops and there she makes her often colorful skulptures . perhaps many can not imagine living in a desert but jael and her 17 year old daaughter feel exactly here bloody good.
