If you ever find yourself in Tafraout, do not miss the detour through the Aït Mansour Gorge. It is quite an experience in a truck: palm leaves, fig branches and other stubborn shrubs scrape the desert dust from both sides and, especially, the roof. All without foam or water.
The gorge is breathtakingly beautiful. Sheer rock walls rise on either side, and the road bends around every palm tree in its path. After a few kilometres our vehicle could go no farther – rien ne va plus – so we explored this jewel of an oasis on foot.
