Some impressions from brazil / south

rio de janeiro / brazil

What a great city !! we have often been warned of crime in rio and these warnings remain present at all times. Too bad, because the Brazilians are super nice and friendly. Almost all of them… This lively city with modern museums, art nouveau villas, old palaces and many contrasts is definitely worth a visit. We love rio!

pedra azul / brazil

This gneis-granit-monlith is more than 500 million years old and why it is called “pedra azul”, i.e. blue stone, is not quite clear to me. The 500m high boulder is impressive, especially as it rises vertically into the sky on one side. There are some hiking trails through the national park, on weekends they are popular, especially the natural pools.

rainforest / brazil

Nearby the forest burned and during the whole day it rained ash down on us. There the word rainforest takes on a new meaning. :-(

The Centro de Arte Contemporânea Inhotim (Contemporary Art Centre Inhotim; also: Instituto Inhotim) is an institution with a collection of contemporary art. It is located in Brumadinho in the state of Minas Gerais, a city of around 40,000 inhabitants and 60 km from the capital Belo Horizonte.

The opening took place in 2004 to house the collection of the entrepreneur Bernardo Paz. Today it exhibits works created between 1970 and the present day. The central exhibition building was designed by the Brazilian architect Rodrigo Cerviñoo Lopez. The collection consists of 450 works by Brazilian and foreign artists, with an emphasis on works by Cildo Meireles, Vik Muniz, Hélio Oiticica, Paul McCarthy and Zhang Huan. The area is 300,000 square meters.

The exhibition is embedded in a spacious garden, the design of which was inspired, among others, by Roberto Burle Marx. Two sculptures by the artist Adriana Varejão and the mahogany boat by the British artist Simon Starling are on display in the open-air grounds, surrounded by native forest.
